Fancy Schmancy Kittens specializes in raising and showing purebred Persian and Exotic Shorthair kittens in Southern Maine. We are a short drive from Boston, Portsmouth, and many parts of New England. Our kittens are hand-raised and intentionally socialized with cats, dogs, children, and all the ins and outs of daily family life, ensuring a smooth transition to your home, and a sweet, adaptable temperament.
Our Queens and kittens enjoy quality prenatal care including vet visits with ultrasound where needed and a custom organic raw food diet supplemented with professional grade Royal Canin kibble. Your kitten is born in a quiet birthing space reserved just for Mom, who maintains access to the rest of the home and is never caged or isolated with her kittens. This dramatically reduces any possible stress on Mom which gives your kitten and incredible start in life.
All adults in our home are tested for not just one or two, but 50 possible genetic diseases. All of our cats are negative/ free from carrying any markers for any of these genetic diseases.
All adult cats in our home are indoor only cats and are tested and free from FIV
Our cattery is registered with the CFA (Cat Fanicest Association) *as well as* TICA (The International Cat Association) and CFF (Cat Fanciers Federation). After all, we are Fancy Schmancy!
One of the most important aspects of choosing a kitten is making sure you get your kitten from a breeder who is overly concerned with socialization. We handle our kittens from their first moments in life, ensuring they are accustomed to handling very early on. We introduce paw massage, brushing and combing, eyebrows and face wash, and even baths, in the first months of life. Our kittens enjoy their first weeks of life in a quiet and private birthing room; when old enough they are moved to our living room, eventually gaining access to our entire living space before they come home to you. They are exposed to dogs, cats, children, car rides, the vets office, and all the ins and outs of family life which helps ensure a smooth transition to your home.

Persian and Exotic Shorthair cats are some of the fanciest looking cats you’ve ever seen, but it’s their personality and temperament that’s the real
showstopper in these breeds. Friendly, outgoing, but not hyper, naughty or loud, a Persian or Exotic will be your close companion and a cherished member of your family. Their sweet temperament and big round eyes and open expression will melt your heart. Your friends and family will all be amazed at the outgoing, friendly nature of your kitten, and you’ll appreciate its generous snuggles and loyal, quiet companionship.
Persian cats and Exotic Shorthair cats are two distinct breeds, with the Persian being the oldest breed of domesticated cat, and the Exotic a newer, short-haired version of the cherished Persian. Both breeds should be friendly, sweet, docile lap cats, with the major difference between the two being coat length. The Exotic has been called “the Lazy Man’s Persian” as the grooming required is significantly less than the Persian. Persian cats require daily combing to maintain their luxurious coat, which is not difficult if you make it part of your routine. Whether you choose an Exotic Shorthair or Persian cat, you can count on an incredible addition to your family.
